Do you use your own car for work? Record each trip in Selfcare, submit the month's log (mapa de km) and your company pays you per kilometre.
Where to find it
In the menu, under Personal, open My expenses and the Mileage logs tab. If you can't see it, your company hasn't turned the module on: talk to HR.
At the top you see what your company pays per km and the year's tax-exempt limit (€0.40 per km in 2026).

Registering your car
Before your first trip, register the car you use under My vehicles, further down the same tab:
- The Portuguese number plate, for example AA-00-AA, and the make and model.
- Who owns it: you, or someone else (for example, your spouse), with their name.
- The statement that the car does not belong to the company and is not rented or leased by it. Without it the car can't be saved: only your own car gives you the tax-exempt kilometres.
The first car you register becomes the Default: a new trip comes with it already selected. With more than one car, use Set as default on the one you use most. You can always pick another on the trip.
A car you no longer use can be archived. Logs that already used it don't change. Archiving the default car removes the mark; set another whenever you like.
Adding trips
Select New trip. The month's log is created automatically with the first trip. For each trip you enter:
- The date, the car, the origin and the destination.
- The purpose and, optionally, the client or project.
- Whether it was a return trip: if so, the kilometres count both ways.
- The departure and return times, if your company asks for them.
- The distance driven, with one decimal place, up to 2,000 km per trip.
If your company turned on automatic calculation, the Calculate km button fills in the road distance between origin and destination. You can always change it, for example if you took another route: the approver sees it was edited. Only the origin and destination are sent to the maps service, never your personal data. If the calculation fails, type the kilometres by hand as usual.
Only work trips away from your usual place of work count. Your commute from home doesn't. Tolls and parking go in the Expense reimbursement tab, with the invoice.
While the log is a draft, you can edit or delete any trip.
Tax-exempt and taxable
Each log shows the month's kilometres, the tax-exempt part and the taxable part. Up to €0.40 per km you pay no income tax (IRS) or Social Security (Segurança Social). If your company pays more, the difference is income and shows as taxable.
To work it out in advance, use the per-km simulator (in Portuguese).
Submitting the log
When the month is complete, select Submit log. The amounts are fixed and the log goes to your team leader in Approvals. You are notified when it is decided.
There is no deadline: you can submit an old month whenever you like. Once paid, or processed in your payslip, the log is locked.
Rejected or cancelled log
- Rejected: the reason appears on the log. Fix the trips and submit again.
- Cancel: while nobody has decided, you can cancel the log. You can then start a new one for that month.
PDFs and payment
A submitted or approved log has the Map (PDF) button, with every trip, the totals and the signatures. Once paid, the Payment statement (PDF) also appears.
Your company pays by bank transfer, together with expenses, or in your payslip (recibo de vencimento), depending on what it chose. Questions about an amount: talk to HR first; for anything else, write to suporte@selfcare.work.
