Leave and absences · Rest schedules
If you work on Saturdays, you don't rest on Saturdays
Set working days and rest days, person by person. Selfcare then counts leave, absences and the subsídio de refeição (meal allowance) by each person's own days, as the law requires, not by a Monday to Friday that isn't theirs.

A shop's weekend is Monday and Tuesday
Shopping centre stores, restaurants, hotels, events companies, trade fairs, security and cleaning all work when others rest. In an Excel sheet, a week of leave for someone who rests on Monday and Tuesday counts three days instead of five. An absence on a Saturday isn't deducted, and the meal allowance comes out on the wrong days. Every month, someone fixes it by hand.
Who it's for
One pattern per person, per period
You create the company's patterns, such as “Wednesday to Sunday” or “Monday to Saturday”, and assign one to each person, with a start date and, if you want, an end date. Choosing a team is only a shortcut for choosing its members: the schedule always belongs to each person.
- Anyone without a schedule works Monday to Friday, as always: if you don't use schedules, you won't notice a thing
- Different schedules in consecutive periods, for example summer and winter
- Team leaders can set the schedules of their teams, if the company wants
- Turn it on in Settings, Modules, on every plan and at no extra cost

How it works
The whole year in a grid, painted with the mouse
One row per person, one column per day. Choose whether you're painting rest or work, click a day and drag, also across months and across people. A swapped day off, an extra Saturday or a different week is marked in one gesture.
- Days painted by hand stay marked, on top of the pattern
- Public holidays appear separately and never count as working days
- Before saving, Selfcare tells you how many absences and people change
- Each employee sees their schedule in My area, as four months, twelve months or a grid

The effect
Leave, absences and payslip by each person's days
When you book an absence, the dialog shows the days that will count under the person's schedule. Those are the days that reach the leave balance and payroll.
- A full week of leave always counts 5 days, whatever the schedule
- An absence on a working Saturday is deducted. On a rest day or a public holiday there is no absence
- The meal allowance counts the schedule's working days, minus absences and public holidays
- The leave balance never goes negative: a schedule change that would take it below zero isn't saved

The law, in plain language
A summary of what Selfcare applies. It doesn't replace advice from a lawyer or your collective agreement, which may have its own rules.
One rest day a week
The Código do Trabalho (Labour Code, art. 232) guarantees at least one rest day a week. It may not be Sunday in shops that open every day, in activities that can't stop, or in security, cleaning, fairs and exhibitions.
22 working days of leave
For leave, working days are Monday to Friday, except public holidays (art. 238). The entitlement is the same for everyone, whatever the schedule.
Weekday rest, Saturday in its place
When rest days fall on weekdays, the Saturdays and Sundays that aren't public holidays count instead (art. 238, no. 3). That's why a week of leave always costs 5 days.
Absences only on working days
An absence means missing a day you should have worked. On a rest day or a public holiday there is no absence, and Selfcare won't let you book one. An unjustified absence next to a rest day or public holiday also takes those days off the payslip (art. 256, no. 3), and Selfcare warns whoever books it.
Meal allowance per day worked
It counts the working days of the month's schedule. Saturday counts for someone who works on Saturdays. A rest-day Monday doesn't.
Telework per telework day
The exempt compensation is an amount per telework day actually worked (Portaria 292-A/2023), so it also follows the schedule's working days.
Frequently asked questions
Does it cost more?+
No. Schedules are on every plan and turn on with a switch, in Settings, Modules.
Do I need Selfcare payroll?+
No. Without it, schedules count leave and absences. With it, they also count missed days, the meal allowance and telework on the payslip.
What if leave is already booked when I change the schedule?+
Selfcare recalculates it. Before saving, it tells you how many absences and how many people change, and it won't save a change that leaves anyone with a negative leave balance.
Can it handle shifts with hours, or work on public holidays?+
Not yet. This is the first phase: working days and rest days. Shift hours and work on public holidays come next.
Who can change the schedules?+
The owner and HR. If the company wants, each leader sets the schedules of the members of the teams they lead, never their own. Employees see theirs in My area.
